Holiday House in the Hamptons

If you haven't had a chance to see the beautiful Holiday House in Water Mill this year, here’s a look at what you're missing! There are so many gorgeous and amazing rooms on display. These photos from my recent visit are only a glimpse into what the Holiday House Hamptons has to offer.

The Holiday House is a designer showhouse dedicated to providing funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a worthy cause. The design spaces are each themed around a special moment in life or a holiday that inspires the designer.

I encourage you to spend an afternoon exploring the rooms. I’m sure you will take away some great design ideas for your interiors.

I recommend checking out the garage by Barbara Ostrom, and upstairs take a look at the room by Melanie Roy! A fun surprise is the tennis court on the roof  - a concept that I found very unique and original!

7 Historical Destinations on Long Island

If you're a Long Island native, you know that Long Island has much more to offer than solely it's scenic, sandy beaches. There are many beautiful and interesting historical destinations on the island, especially out east. If you're in the mood to explore your surroundings, head to any of these places listed below and discover the array of different adventures Long Island has to offer. Bring the whole family for a fun and educational new experience together while staying local! You may be pleasantly surprised at what you discover!

1. The Pollack Krasner House and Study Center – Located in East Hampton, the Pollack-Krasner House was once the home of abstract-expressionist Jackson Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner, who was also an artist. Built in 1879, the house still maintains the same appearance as it did at the time of Pollack's death, including the original furnishings, his favorite possessions, and his personal library. The property is considered a national landmark and attracts people from all over the world. You can even schedule a tour of the house and outdoor studio, where Pollack created some of his most famous artworks in his signature style.
2. The East Hampton Windmill – The 'Hook Windmill', located at Old Hook Mill in East Hampton, was constructed in 1806 and operated until 1908. The well-known landmark, found on North Main street, is included in the National Register of Historical Places. This location is open daily for visitors.
3. Fairview Farm – Located in Bridgehampton, Fairview Farm is a family-run business. The farm features a vast array of fresh meats, vegetables, fruits, herbs, fresh-cut flowers, and honey. Visitors from all over Long Island flock to Fairview for its delicious produce and historical nature.
4. Gosman's Dock – Founded in 1943 by Robert and Mary Gosman, the Montauk location started as a small chowder stand specializing in lobster rolls. The restaurant now serves a variety of delicious dishes that attract tourists from across the state. Gosman's Dock features a beautiful beach-front atmosphere coupled with clothing and gourmet food shops.
5. Deep Hollow Ranch – Run by Patrick and Cate Keogh, Deep Hollow Ranch is known as the 'birthplace of the American cowboy' and the oldest working ranch in the United States. The location includes preserved areas of coastal land and welcomes travelers from all over the world to learn more about America's rich history while enjoying trail rides through the beautiful Montauk landscape.
6. Camp Hero State Park – Consisting of 415 acres of gorgeous beachfront terrain in Montauk, Camp Hero State Park offers winding trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding through the beautiful forest and freshwater wetlands.
7. Montauk Lighthouse – 'Montauk Point Light' is the lighthouse located near Montauk Point State Park and marks the easternmost part of Long Island. Montauk Lighthouse stands as the first lighthouse to be constructed in New York and is the fourth oldest lighthouse in the United States. This location features a museum, areas for fishing, picnicking and surfing. For only 10$ per adult and $4 per child, you can enter the lighthouse and climb its spiral staircase – truly a walk through history.

Museums

The Children's Museum of the East End is a peak spot to take your family to on days that the beach doesn't seem so appealing. Located at 376 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton, NY, it has endless activities and events to keep the kids from being bored and parents smiling. For members, admission is free; for non-members, it's only $10. Open 9am-5pm every day but Tuesday, make a day trip out of it. Make some art and music, play with puppets, visit the Crawler Garden's “cuddly bugs” and pick up some farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, and combine history, reading, science, art, and music all into one day.

The Parrish Art Museum was recently renovated into a beautiful 34,400-square-foot facility designed by Herzog & de Meuron. Skylit galleries showcase some of America's most steadfast artists from the east end of Long Island. Founded in 1898, the facelift brings new life into a timeless museum that embraces the artists' colony of Eastern Long Island. The Parrish is open year-round, so be sure to keep checking for new exhibits and installations. Regular museum hours are Wednesday-Monday 11am-6pm, closed on all Tuesdays, and Fridays 11am-8pm. Admission is $10 for adults over 18 – children under 18 are admitted for free, as well as students with valid ID. Become a museum member and get in all the time to enjoy the museum. Located at 279 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY.

Restaurants of Bridgehampton

Candy Kitchen – Est. 1925 The oldest diner in the Hamptons, and a staple of the Bridgehampton community, Candy Kitchen has become more of an experience in itself than simply a restaurant. is a longtime favorite of locals and tourists. The Candy Kitchen experience begins with its appearance; a nostalgic, classical vertical sign that reads "Breakfast - SODA - Luncheon" in neon lettering, atop a charming blue and white overhang, which gives any passerby the experience of being transported back to their favorite adolescent luncheonette. The red, white and blue of the Candy Kitchen has become a landmark of the east end, and the diner-classic menu has been filling the stomachs of  locals and tourists since 1925.  Its simple, diner-classic menu has something for everyone, even for the pickiest little fingers. The service is fast and friendly, the food is served fresh from the kitchen, and the menu won't bite your bank account. The only thing you won't find there is scarcity, as many families have made it a routine to bring their children to Candy's to enjoy the food and atmosphere. Speaking of families, if you spare a moment to look at the walls, you'll see that they're lined with a number of different family portraits, captured by Lucille Khornak, a seasoned portrait specialist. A passionate professional who has experienced life on both sides of the camera, Lucille has developed a unique ability to go beyond the stereotypical "Kodak" moment. No matter who she's photographing, Lucille can capture their natural personality in one still shot, irregardless of age  or gender. The family is your work of art, and you're the artist – so why not showcase it? Oh, but only after you've finished your homemade ice cream flavor from Candy Kitchen.

Bobby Van's – Est. 1969

Every town needs a good steakhouse, right? Enter Bobby Van's, the Main Street cornerstone renowned for its fantastic steak and fresh seafood. Bobby Van's has been a part of  the Bridgehampton community since the summer of 1969, when Bobby Van himself opened up his steakhouse's doors to the public. Known for its top of the line service, fabulously cooked food, and lively atmosphere, Bobby Van's is where you go to eat like a king. During the summer months, when the sun shines bright over the east end, diners at Bobby Van's can park themselves at one of the many outdoor tables beneath the maroon Bobby Van's awning. Bobby Van's takes pride in serving the finest Prime USDA beef, freshly caught seafood and shellfish, and carefully chosen ingredients that'll leave you stuffed for the evening, but craving more. Bobby Van's is hardly Bridgehampton exclusive; you can find a Bobby Van's at East 54^th St, West 50^th St., 25 Broad St., Park Avenue, and Times Square, as well as two Washington, D.C. restaurants and a JFK airport location, and the takeout spot BV's Burger – the tastiest takeout you'll get near Times Square.

The Golden Pear Cafe – Est. 1996

Breakfast, as they say, is the most important meal of the day, and when enjoying breakfast, there's no better way to do it tun in style. Enter the Golden Pear, the award-winning cafe that personifies the charm and exuberance that only the east end can bring. A beloved spot for your daily cup of coffee, taking a seat outside offers endless people watching opportunities and the chance to catch up with friends and neighbors in an easy going atmosphere. Deliciously prepared meals are a staple of Golden Pear. Try a sandwich, wrap, or salad with garden fresh veggies and tasty meats, one of their many soups, and try a mouth-watering pastry from their on-premises bakery. Pierre's – Est. 2000

One of the more recent additions to the Main Street BH lineup of eateries, Pierre's quaint presence has all the charm of French bistros. Pierre's specializes in locally caught seafood and is open for breakfast thru dinner year-round. The menu varies on the season, constantly changing so your taste buds never grow bored. Famous for its fresh baked pastries and seafood dishes are complimented by the unique lighting – swathed in sunlight by day, with elegant, atmospheric lighting by night.  Its intimacy is paralleled by its class; this is a must-do on your checklist of restaurants to browse this summer at the Hamptons.

Flying Point Beach – Flying Point Road, Water Mill, NYWhy's it so great? Between the gorgeous scenery, the endless people-watching opportunities, and chance to mingle with the young and upbeat crowd it's something you can't miss checking off on your “what's to do?” list for this summer. Teeming with toned abs and sun-kissed tans, if you're feeling alive and kicking you definitely need to stop by at least once this season. The perfect place for the fresh-out-of-college types seeking a little summer love.

Indian Wells Beach – Amagansett, NY Why to bring the kids? Amagansett's beach is downright huge, leaving you and the family plenty of room to spread out your umbrellas and towels. There's public bathrooms and tons of tasty snack trucks to keep you full and comfortable. With its gentle waves lapping against the beautiful golden shoreline, it's the perfect place to teach your little ones how to do the dog paddle and splash until they're ready to fall asleep the entire car ride home. If you have a second before heading home, stop by Main Street to grab a little something to go at Mary's Marvelous, serving fresh baked goods and sandwiches.   Coopers Beach – Southampton, NY Daytripper's Delight! Coopers Beach is ideal for a relaxing day to soak up the sun with family and friends. There's chair and umbrella rentals available in case you forgot your own, public restrooms and shower stations (so you don't bring the beach back home in your car!) and a big concession area. With ice cream, ice cold drinks, and oh-so-good fried favorites like burgers and fries, you can't possibly leave hungry. Just get here early! It gets pretty darn crowded in the peak of the afternoon.

Main Beach – Ocean Avenue, East Hampton, NY Stunning views and endless horizons – This is considered widely to be one of the beautiful beaches around the east end. Picturesque, it's kept spotlessly clean by staff to maintain the high-quality appearance its garnered a reputation for. Bring the kids, there's more than enough lifeguards to help keep a watchful eye on them. Parking is the only bummer, so roll out of bed early to get here before parking fills to the brim. Partygoers steer clear from this beach too (alcohol is prohibited), so no worries about your feet finding a broken Budweiser bottle nestled in the sand. Snack bar's open, who's hungry?

Mecox Beach – Jobs Lane, Bridgehampton, NY Got a membership? No? No worries! Kids can swim here under lifeguard supervision while mom and dad can kick back and enjoy some much needed rest and relaxation. If you don't already have a Bridgehampton Racquet & Surf Club membership, it's only $15 (one of the cheapest rates around) to park here all day. A volleyball court awaits those itching to spike the first ball of the season, with a concession stand, showers, and a restroom nearby. It's a super family-friendly too, as alcohol, tents, glass bottles, loud music, and bonfires are prohibited. Bring the boogie board and fishing pole, as it's welcomed outside of the designated swim spots. Feeling up to a bike ride before hitting the waves? A bike rack is accessible for those who didn't drive to the beach.

Known best for their giant corn maze simply called “The Maize”, the Fairview Farm is a great destination for top quality veggies and hand-picked fruits, home-baked pastries, and sweet potato chips. It's a taste of the Hamptons in an heirloom tomato or a ripe, roasted ear of corn. During the fall, enjoy pumpkin picking, shooting the corn cannon, eat fresh pop corn, and finding your way through the Maize.

Hanks Farmstand

Noted for its pick-your-own strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries, bring your kids for a rare chance to get hands on at a farm and find out where your food really comes from. Be sure to dress in comfortable, older clothes and shoes, pack the sunscreen and baby wipes for sticky, berry-stained hands, and the camera for snapshots. Hours are 9:30am-6pm seven days a week.

Iacono Farm

A small, family owned and operated farm that's been in East Hampton since 1948. Open year round with eggs and chickens for sale, along with plenty of homemade cookies, pastries, and breads. Ducks are also available during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Bring the kids with you – let them pet the baby goats while you wait for your chicken order to be prepared. Sundays are 10am-12pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays are 1pm-5pm. Tuesdays are closed. Fridays and Saturdays are 10am-12pm and reopens at 1pm-5pm.

The Milk Pail

Nestled on the westbound side of Montauk Highway on the border of Water Mill and Bridgehampton, The Milk Pail is a popular visit when heading back west. In the 1640s the Halsey family first settled in Watermill and began farming as a permanent lifestyle and culture. To this day, the farm is still the pride and joy of the 11^th and 12^th generation Halseys. The Milk Pail Country Store began over 30 years ago to sell milk, apples, and vegetables. They offer fresh pressed apple cider made from over eight varieties of their carefully nurtured apples. Daughters Amy and Jennifer Halsey continue to keep the farm stand alive and well stocked every year with their parents. Both daughters have gone through extensive schooling and gotten Bachelor's degrees in floriculture and plant science, and pomology (the study of growing and marketing fruit), respectively. Over 1200 peach trees are blossoming at the family farm. Enjoy Amy's Flowers and Jennifer's peaches every season from May thru August. Apple and pumpkin picking is available in September and October.

Babinski's/Comfort Farm Farm Stand

Open from June thru October, Babinski's Farm Stand is a family owned and operated farm that's been selling homemade jams, breads, pies, and fresh produce for over 30 years. Footsteps from

the Bridgehampton LIRR station, it's a must to check out during the peak season. A very quaint, small stand is sometimes the best place to get the best pickings. Known for its asparagus and handpicked strawberries.

Vicki's Veggies

An inexpensive, low-key farm stand with top notch quality and service in its now 31^st year of business. Vicki started her farm stand when she was only 11 years old and has kept it in the best of shape ever since. A quality herb garden, selectively chosen vegetables, and an experience worth the trip out there makes Vicki's Veggies one of the best farm stands in the Hamptons. Open seven days a week from 7am-8pm, this is the perfect stop for the busy commuter looking to snag some organic produce or hanging baskets of flowers. Vicki's Veggies is now being helped by her young daughter Maria. Last year, Vicki's mother's famous zucchini bread won first place at the Riverhead County Fair. Try a slice! The farm stand is run by Vicki and her mother. Want to know which one is Vicki behind the counter? Just look for the woman who isn't wearing the shirt saying “I am not Vicki!”
