Ignite the Creativity Within

People often ask me how I come up with new, fun, and unique ideas- even after all these years in the field of professional photography. Truth be told, I simply like to try new things. That’s why whenever I’m working, I try to remain open to going with the flow, and switching things up every now and then.

I’m very inquisitive. Michael always tells me I like to ask 50 questions- and this is true. I love to meet new people, to learn about who they are and why they do things the way they do. I believe we’re all here on a journey, so I’m naturally inquisitive about where people are when I meet them as they are on one of their own. No matter what happens in this life, every moment is an opportunity to learn something new, and, in the end, all we have left is the memories we’ve documented on film (which is now digital, of course- 😜).

I’m also very energetic. I believe in the power of positivity and I love to see when I can inspire positive energy in those around me. Did you know that just the colours around you can have a major impact on your mood or overall outlook on life? Many of my clients are surprised at how great a difference the right wall design can make in their home or office.

I like to think the colour orange is the perfect ‘in between colour’ on the palette. It’s just the right amount of a bold red, mixed with just the right amount of a bright yellow- it makes for the perfect colour to capture the essence of creativity, energy, and ambition. You know, Maya Angelou once said, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” I would say that this is how I still come up with new ideas! Maybe it’s trying a new location, or perhaps even not knowing the location at all. Usually, if I don’t know the location beforehand, it will push me to be more intuitive when I am shooting on location, and to be completely present in the moment.

As I think of the power of the colour orange, I am inspired to encourage you to live your life with freedom and power. Some people stick with the safer colours (white, beige, black), yet orange is somewhat of a step out of the safe zone. People who live in the safe zone, live with #FOMO (the fear of missing out). What ends up happening is that they miss out on the chance to enjoy some of the best moments of their life, and -even worse- they forget to document them. Step out of the safe zone, use each moment as a new lesson to learn on your journey, and document these moments- this is how the generations to come will remember you!
