What makes a newborn child precious?

This past weekend, I was lucky to briefly visit my niece and her seven month old grandbaby. One discussion in particular stayed with me. It was a thought provoking conversation about a newborn child.
We all begin as a single cell that develops in a mother’s womb for nine months, and then out comes this tiny precious little being that will change day to day for the next several years. As newborns yhey change so quickly, and it’s quite miraculous that that can happen. These are just a few points I remember from our conversation, but I would love if you would allow me to take these next few lines and share directly from my niece’s point of view:

“It’s amazing to think of the dramatic changes- automatically for this little being to develop with bones, organs, teeth, eyelashes, nervous system, vision and hearing...
It’s breathtaking
When a newborn is being held, the thought that he was folded up inside his mother’s body only days, weeks, or months ago just brings me to my knees
I’m taken by the fact that the baby goes from that to eating and talking in just 365 days
It’s simply miraculous when you really pause and think about what takes place”

It’s so much fun to see them develop, as they deliver their first chuckles, speak their first words, and take their first steps. I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity to spend time with loved ones. It was great to share these positive thoughts on beauty and life together, and -of course- we were sure to take a few family photos while there, as it is important to record the special moments of life.
