Fashion: 2001
My debut book was a tremendous success. It went on for two years straight, which was virtually unheard of. It was really quite fascinating to see what each designer projected as their designs for the future back then. Of course, today we can look back at it, and it really becomes this sort of iconic moment in history.
Being with each designer was very interesting. Photographing them and having the opportunity to touch on their lives in a different way, some more than others, was a very special experience. Icons Karl Lagerfeld, Issey Miyake, and Zandra Rhodes each came to my home during the making of the book. So many moments to remember.
Above all, this was a project of love. I had to work on it every single day. It took a tremendous amount of energy. We didn't’ have digital back then, so I had to search to find backgrounds that had a futuristic look to them. There was no retouching on the book, as the retouching we have today did not exist back then.
Ultimately, I am very grateful for this book. Its success went around the world, and to be honest, I went with it. Because of the book, I did over 80 radio and television shows. To this day, people are still discovering this book and falling in love with all the incredible work that went into it over and over again.
